Ya Ta Hey Mighty Papoose Nation,
The Papoose Nation has been on the move this past month.
We had a great turnout at the Papoose Induction Hot Dog Dinner with
plenty of food for all that attended. A special thanks to our assistant Nation
Chief Jay Moore for taking care of the details for the meal and cooking a bunch
of hot dogs. Thank you to Fox Chief
Brian Murphy for reserving the pavilion and other stuff. I would also like to
thank everyone for bringing the side dishes and desserts, and making this a fun
way to kick off Induction.
After most of the hot dogs were eaten, the nation headed down the hill to the
Induction ceremony. This Induction
ceremony was the best one I have attended in my five years in the program.
I missed marching in with the tribes, but enjoyed my time with the other
nation chief’s on our short canoe tour of the lake.
I also enjoyed seeing all the new members being presented with their
first “Prized Patch”, the Induction Patch.
The fire dancers put on a fabulous show to finish up a GREAT evening!
Less than a week later we took the nation on the road to Cleburne State Park.
The Fall Papoose Campout was full of activities and the weather was perfect.
The water gun shoot out on Saturday afternoon helped everyone cool off a
bit, and it was followed by a great brisket supper.
Thanks to the Wolf Tribe for cooking the brisket, hosting the dinner, and
to Stephen Davis for bringing the smoker.
The Wolf Tribe had been busy working on deeds and received 3 Fawn
patches, 4 Bear patches, and 4 Wolf patches around the nation fire Saturday
night. I look forward to presenting many more patches in the future!
November and December is full of activities: the Turkey Shoot on Nov. 7th,
Federation Community Day on Nov. 14th, the Papoose Train Ride and
Stockyards on Nov. 21st, Arlington Parade of Lights on Dec. 5th,
and the Papoose Christmas Party on Dec.13th.
I hope you can also find some time to have a tribe meeting or two over
the next few months.
Be sure to check out the Induction and Fall Campout photos, and all the latest
Papoose Nation information.
